This gives a more expansive tone but still retains the clarity of a medium bore slide. This one is his medium bore, Quart model which has a .525" slide and a Hagmann F attachment. Musicians' earplugs try to reduce the volume by the same amount at all pitches, which makes the instrument sound much better (although still not the same as without earplugs). The only instrument I ever learned was the piano but the 1910 Olds trombone in its green velvet case seduced me.

IT IS A LOVELY INSTRUMENT PRODUCING A GREAT RANGE OF BEAUTIFUL SOUNDS. WITH A LOT OF PRACTICE I AM HOPING TO IMPROVE AND GIVE THE INSTRUMENT THE CREDIT IT DESERVES. I know why it was voted to this place, its not even an instrument but I don't maybe it is, all well. Although the word “mute” may mean silence, a brass instrument mute doesn’t actually silence the brass instrument (much as some might wish it would) http://ballard73.com/?freebooks/francis-poulenc-sonata-for-horn-trumpet-and-trombone-miniature-score. It has seen light use and has only had one owner since it was new in the mid 1990s. It has a 321 yellow brass, unsoldered, bell flare, thayer valve, yellow tuning slide and lightweight .547" slide. It has a single leadpipe, that is removable. It's quite a good player, having a warm expansive sound that is easily colored. The trombone is even and predictable throughout, the F attachment is free blowing with little color change , cited: http://ballard73.com/?freebooks/violin-concerto-op-35-a-bv-243-trombone-1-2-and-3-parts-a-5211. Designed primarily with the symphonic player in mind, but suited to all styles of playing , cited: http://ballard73.com/?freebooks/nabucco-part-iv-preludio-ed-aria-dio-di-giuda-lara-il-tempio-baritone-chorus-trombone. As such, horns do not produce as brilliant a tone as say for example the trumpet or the trombone which may be said to have a cylindrical bore. It could be said that the horns form a kind of bridge between the woodwind and the heavier brass sections and much of their duty in the orchestra is to fill in with and blend in with the woodwind instruments , source: http://thebarefootkitchen.com.s12128.gridserver.com/books/violin-concerto-no-2-op-7-trombone-1-part-qty-2-a-1875.

A much greater amount of energy is lost as a sort of friction (viscous and thermal loss) with the wall. In a sustained note, this energy is replaced by energy put in by the player. The column of air in the instrument vibrates much more easily at some frequencies than at others (i.e. it resonates at certain frequencies). These resonances largely determine the playing frequency and thus the pitch, and the player in effect changes the length of the instrument and thereby the frequencies of the resonances by suitable combinations of inserting extra pieces of pipe via the valves, or by changing the length of the slide in the case of the trombone , cited: http://istarestudi.com/?books/school-for-trombone-in-clefs-including-the-all-new-alto-studies. It features a seamless sterling silver bell flare. These bells were made on special electroplated mandrels, which let them be thinner and more vibrant than sheet sterling silver material (ala King Silversonic), thus giving these sterling bells a resonant and responsive sound http://pointforwardinc.com/ebooks/les-miserables-instrumental-solos-for-trombone. They are capable of an amazing volume but also have a unique personality in each horn. If you've been following my site, you've noticed the other Supers I've had for sale... each played differently. This horn is interesting, it's in really good vintage shape and the inner tubes are free of wear (important because Supers have the fluted octagonal inner slide tubes).
